Sunflower Presents 2022 Pharmacy MTM Champion Award to John Schmidt

Sunflower Health Plan has awarded its annual Medication Therapy Management (MTM) Champion Award to John Schmidt of Graves Pharmacy in Emporia, Kansas.

Each year, the Sunflower Health Plan MTM Champion Award recognizes one Kansas pharmacist who advocates for and integrates MTM services into their pharmacy practice.

MTM is a group of services that starts with conducting comprehensive medication reviews, including all prescription, over-the-counter, nutritional and herbal supplements a member is taking. It also entails educating and counseling members to help detect and resolve issues around appropriate medication use. Working collaboratively with members and providers, pharmacists can help members adhere to medication therapy to support their overall health.

“John’s patient recommendations are thorough and clear, and he gives our members easy-to-understand and actionable next steps -- especially in the area of diabetes. He shows a detailed understanding of management of the disease and works closely with our members and providers to improve health,” said Angie Yoo, Sunflower’s director of clinical pharmacy.

“Pharmacists who actively monitor and help manage members’ medication regimens also contribute to their overall wellbeing and safety. Mr. Schmidt has demonstrated a real commitment to his patients that shows through clear results,” added Yoo.

Sunflower has presented the MTM Champion Award each year since 2014.
