KMAP BULLETIN: CMHC Autism Enrollment

Date: 06/25/19

KMAP MENTAL HEALTH BULLETIN 19097 (PDF)

Effective August 1, 2019, Community Mental Health Centers (CMHCs) can bill for autism services in the Medicaid program.

The current provider type 11 (Mental Health) and specialties 403 (Consultative Clinical and Therapeutic Services) and 404 (Intensive Individual Support) are the only providers allowed to perform these services on behalf of the CMHC. These providers must be enrolled with KMAP prior to rendering services on behalf of the CMHC.

The date of service must be on or after August 1, 2019. The procedure codes available for autism services are: 97151, 97152, 97153, 97155 and 97156. The CMHC should also bill the rendering provider for these services.

For questions related to the enrollment of these providers, providers can contact Provider Enrollment at 1-800-933-6593.

The appropriate KMAP provider manual will be updated, and additional notification will be sent.

Note: The effective date of the policy is August 1, 2019.

The implementation of State policy by the KanCare managed care organizations (MCOs) may vary from the date noted in the Kansas Medical Assistance Program (KMAP) bulletins. The KanCare Open Claims Resolution Log on the KMAP Bulletins page documents the MCO system status for policy implementation and any associated reprocessing completion dates, once the policy is implemented.
