KMAP BULLETIN: Expansion of Brain Injury Waiver

Date: 02/12/20

KMAP GENERAL BULLETIN 20006 (PDF)

Effective March 1, 2020, the state is expanding eligibility for the Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Brain Injury (BI) waiver to individuals ages zero (0) to, and including, fifteen (15) years old. Consequently, individuals from zero (0) to, and including, sixty-four (64) years of age may be eligible for the Brain Injury waiver upon meeting other eligibility criteria established in the waiver and program eligibility policy.

The newly added population will be serviced through the state plan prior to accessing waiver services. Waiver services are meant to complement and/or supplement the services that are available through the Medicaid State plan.

Note: The effective date of the policy is March 1, 2020.

The implementation of State policy by the KanCare managed care organizations (MCOs) may vary from the date noted in the Kansas Medical Assistance Program (KMAP) bulletins. The KanCare Open Claims Resolution Log on the KMAP Bulletins page documents the MCO system status for policy implementation and any associated reprocessing completion dates, once the policy is implemented.
