KMAP BULLETIN: <mark>UPDATED</mark> - NCPDP Validation and Translation Errors

ATTENTION ELECTRONIC NCPDP BILLERS

With the implementation of the Kansas Modular Medicaid System (KMMS) and the adherence of the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) national transaction standards, the Kansas Medical Assistance Program (KMAP) has seen an increase in Point of Sale (POS) errors for the following pharmacy transactions:
        • B1 - Billing
        • B2 - Reversal

The errors are triggered within the translation process and do not allow entry into the claims payment system when:
        • A value submitted is not a valid NCPDP defined value
        • A structural issue occurs because the segment is not formatted correctly

Currently, some values considered invalid are being temporarily accepted to allow providers time to make system changes. Structural errors cannot be accepted and must be corrected.

Beginning October 3, 2022 October 9, 2022, more robust rejection messaging will be returned, and invalid values will no longer be accepted.

We are advising pharmacy providers to reach out to their software vendors to review the list of NCPDP common file errors identified by KMAP and make changes to align with NCPDP standards. The NCPDP Common File Errors log can be located under the bulletins.

The NCPDP Common File Error log includes a list of common errors, which will be updated as new errors are identified by KMAP. The errors noted in the NCPDP Common File Error log will require correction. 

Below is the information available on the NCPDP Common File Error log. The log is separated into two sections:
      • B1 - Billing Transactions
      • B2 - Reversal Transactions

Details can be found under each of the following:
     • Type of Error
     • Field
     • Field Name
     • Field Format
     • Notification Message
