SHPBN-2016-063 New DRG (Diagnosis-Related) Grouper

Effective October 1, 2016

Effective with discharge dates on or after October 1, 2016, MS-DRG Grouper version 34 will be used for inpatient claims processing. There are no new MS (Medicare Severity) DRGs. Deleted and revised MS-DRGs are as follows:

  • Deleted MS-DRGs:
    • MS-DRG 230 (Combined with MS-DRG 229)
  • Revised MS-DRGs
    • MS-DRG 229: Other Cardiothoracic Procedures without MCC (updated title)
    • MS-DRG 208: Respiratory System Diagnosis with Ventilator Support <=96 Hours (updated title)
    • MS-DRG 884: Organic Disturbances and Intellectual Disability (updated title)

Full DRG Update January 1, 2017

The full DRG update of rates and weights will be effective January 1, 2017. CMS updates the groupers in October, so the State of Kansas is updating the groupers effective October 1, 2016.
