SHPBN-2018-013 Sunflower Farmers Market Season Opens

Date: 05/07/18

Members to Receive Produce Vouchers in Overland Park and Topeka in May

Sunflower Health Plan members are invited to receive vouchers for fresh produce this summer at farmers markets around the state of Kansas.

The vouchers are worth $10 and must be picked up and redeemed at the markets announced and attended by Sunflower staff members. Sunflower Health Plan will be at these market to welcome members and distribute the vouchers for produce purchases.

The 2018 season kicks off May 16 in Overland Park, which is the first of at least 14 “Member Day at the Market” events. Follow us on Facebook or visit our events schedule to see more dates, and encourage your Sunflower patients to stop by to see us.

“We welcome health plan members to take advantage of this benefit and can offer them many ideas for incorporating more fruits and vegetables into their diet,” said Chris Coffey, Sunflower president and CEO. “This is an important initiative because consuming healthy foods can help reduce our risk for disease.”

Sunflower Health Plan’s farmers market initiative also supports local growers and their communities. During last year’s market season, the health plan introduced more than 1,000 Sunflower members to Kansas farmers markets.

This is the health plan’s third year having a multi-city program serving members at Kansas farmers markets. The market season in most communities runs from May through October.
