KMAP BULLETIN: New POS Code for Telehealth

KMAP GENERAL BULLETIN 17109

Effective with the processing date of May 19, 2017, and retroactive to dates of service on and after January 3, 2017, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service (CMS) created a new place of service (POS) code for telemedicine. POS 02 (Telehealth) will be used by the physician or practitioner furnishing telemedicine services from a distant site.

Modifier GT (through interactive audio and video telecommunications systems) is still required when billing for telemedicine services.

The following procedure codes are allowed with POS 02:
