KMAP BULLETIN: CCBHC Provider Type/Provider Specialty Designation and Place of Service

Effective and retroactive to May 1, 2022, only Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs) Provider Type and Provider Specialty (PT/PS) 11/121 are permitted to submit code T1040 for reimbursement. CCBHCs are enrolled as a group, therefore providers and professional staff performing the service must be enrolled as a member of that group. Individual providers and professional staff are prohibited from using the T1040 code independent of a CCBHC.

T1040 and Telemedicine Place of Service (POS) codes:
Telemedicine POS codes are not allowed for T1040, only the actual service provided via telemedicine will be billed with POS code 02 or 10. Procedure Code T1040 should be billed with POS code 11 (office).

Note: The effective date of the policy is May 1, 2022. The implementation of State policy by the KanCare managed care organizations (MCOs) may vary from the date noted in the Kansas Medical Assistance Program (KMAP) bulletins. The KanCare Open Claims Resolution Log on the KMAP Bulletins page documents the MCO system status for policy implementation and any associated reprocessing completion dates, once the policy is implemented.
