KMAP BULLETIN: Doulas Coverage – Allowable Place of Service Clarification

Effective with dates of service retroactive to July 1, 2024, Kansas Medicaid will cover the doula services rendered at the following place of service codes.

The current enrollment criteria, documentation requirements, and the billing guidelines will remain the same, as indicated on the KMAP bulletin 24099.

Covered Place of Service Codes:
Unless otherwise noted, the following place of service codes applies to prenatal and postpartum care only.

Note: Doula services may be provided via telemedicine, video and audio transmissions are covered, not applicable for labor and delivery.

Note: The effective date of the policy is July 1, 2024. The implementation of State policy by the KanCare Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) may vary from the date noted in the Kansas Medical Assistance Program (KMAP) bulletins. The KanCare Open Claims Resolution Log on the KMAP Bulletins page documents the MCO system status for policy implementation and any associated reprocessing completion dates once the policy is implemented.
